Marc Kowalzick is a post-doctoral researcher at the Chair of SME Research and Entrepreneurship at the University of Mannheim. He obtained his PhD summa cum laude from the University of Mannheim and also holds a M.Sc. in Management from the University of Mannheim, scoring in the best decile of his cohort. He is currently part of the family firm research division at the Institute of SME Research.
Marc’s research interests center around the field of strategic management, with an emphasis on strategic leadership and corporate governance. In this field, he investigates when and how top executive characteristics affect their firms’ strategic actions and eventual performance outcomes. His current work examines how dispositions, cognitive biases, and the identities of organizational leaders shape, amongst others, strategic change, earnings management, restructuring strategies, and turnaround performance. His research has been awarded at several international conferences (e.g., European Academy of Management Annual Conference 2018 and 2020, IECER 2020) and published in the Journal of Management (https://doi.org/10.1177/01492063221104398).
Outstanding students who wish to dedicate their master thesis to quantitative research related to the above research interests may apply for his supervision of their master thesis.
