Marc Kowalzick is a PhD student at the Chair of SME Research and Entrepreneurship at the University of Mannheim, where he also obtained his master’s degree, scoring in the best decile of his cohort. He is part of the family firm research division at the Institute of SME Research.
His research interests center around the field of strategic management, with an emphasis on strategic leadership and corporate governance. In this field, he investigates when and how senior executive characteristics and psychology affect their firm’s strategic actions and eventual performance outcomes. His current work in this domain examines how dispositions, cognitive biases, and the identities of organizational leaders shape, amongst others, strategic change, restructuring strategies, and turnaround performance. His research has been awarded at several international conferences (e.g., European Academy of Management Annual Conference 2018 and 2020, IECER 2020).
