MAN 770 (Research Seminar) is optional!

Guide to the Master Thesis

Step 1: Topic

In order to ensure the best accordance with their individual preferences, students are expected to choose a topic from the excel file comprising all current master thesis topics of our chair. Thesis topics match our department’s and institute’s research focus and the research questions of the faculty. In particular, the research focus encompasses:

Step 2: Supervisor

Choose a topic from the current master thesis topics list and access the department’s web site to find the teaching assistants’ profiles. Contact the research assistant whose topic you like to choose.

Step 3: Thesis Proposal

You are expected to submit a thesis proposal which constitutes an important part before starting writing the thesis. It outlines the thesis topic, aim, and research questions of the thesis. Additionally, it should describe the approach (type of empirical work) and method chosen (qualitative or quantitative work) as well as a preliminary table of contents reflecting the structure of your thesis.

Step 4: Registration

Step 5: Launch

The previously developed thesis proposal will be taken as a basis for the acceptance of the thesis. Once you got the approval of your supervisor, please arrange an appointment with Ms Becker for the office hour of Professor Woywode.

As a formal act, the registration of the master thesis is requested at the Student’s Office through the department’s secretariat. The registration is possible at any time and is not necessarily bound by the semester cycle.

Step 6: Presentation at Master Colloquium

When approximately one half of the working time has passed by, the master thesis must be presented at the Master Colloquium. Please arrange the date of your presentation with your supervisor.

Step 7: Termination

In accordance to § 12(4) of the Mannheim Master in Management regulations, working time for the master thesis consists of 4 months.

Step 8: Hand-in

The master thesis must be handed in after four months of working time. It must be delivered in duplicate (2 copies) and as an electronic version on a compact disk (CD).
